Google sometimes amazes me ...I hurriedly did a webpage one day and didn't catch a mispelled word ...the name of a plant ...I looked at my hits a few days later and that page had had loads of hits ...all coming from people who googled it and mispelled it too.

I'm not sure how this would be a legal issue or where people would be able to complain, really. I mean, if google grabs a domain name... what difference does it make? It's the same as if I'd grabbed up some typo domain... just people are ready to jump on the big guys about that kind of thing.

As a freelance writer of web content, I often get handed lists of keywords to incorporate into articles and web copy. It's not unusual for webmasters to capitalize on a misspelled keyword that way. The competition for visitors to the misspelled name isn't as high and you're far more likely to end up on the first page when people type a misspelled word (that you've optimized for) into the search box.
As far as the ads coming directly from Google - of course they do. The pages are created to capitalize on the Google Adsense program - they're not owned by Google. They just belong to the Adsense program. As long as the content on the page is legitimate, and they can show high enough traffic numbers, Google will place ads on their pages. |
