Does anyone offer website templates with their domains when they sell them, or is it easier just to sell the domain flat out?

If they don't you can visit sites like http://www.oswd.org/-it's an open source web design site. The templates are free and there are lots of them for you to choose from. Also you can find a designer that you like if you want something custom.

Some companies are offering the domain purchase and a bundled package that includes design work etc to get the website up and running. This attracts mostly newbies who don't really know where to go and how to get their website functional.

So on those sites can the owner update his own site using FTP?

I'd like to be able to be "hands on" when I start a site.
