I think I am going to like the new travel extension. It isn't clear yet how popular it will be for companies in that industry but it clearly signifies what a company does. Unlike .org which can be many types of organizations, the travel extension is pretty clear in its delineation.

I tend to think of sites ending in dot com as more stable, but that's probably just a perception, right?

Yes, I think so, Ricardo. However, dot.com is really stable and I also believe dot.net is another one aside from the others which are strongly gaining popularity.

Yeah geline, I agree that dot net is strong too. In Canada dot c a seems pretty stable to me, as well.

But I guess dot in has to be the most expensive of them all or is there another one more costly than this?

I've never understood multiple extensions - .com and .yourcountry are both so well known now that it is instinctive for anyone who has been online a while to use them - want to find the web site for a company you saw on TV - type nameofthecomany . com or . mycountry - it just makes sense! To have some companies using the new extensions, and some not, seems silly. It also seems silly for an international company - are we going to end up with, say uk.myhotelchain.travel and au.myhotelchain.travel, intead of myhotelchain.co.uk and myhotelchain.au?

I prefer .com, .org, and the country TLDs personally. Anything else is (in my opinion) counter-intuitive to users.

I speak from experience there because I used to have a .org.uk, and because it was .org.uk and not just .org, I lost a ton of type-in traffic to my .org competitor. Keep it simple IMO

It may be a perception now but these were times when dot com sites and portals are beleived to be highly profiled things as almost all including me think that other than dot com are offered free!
