Default Public vs Private

Do you guys pay extra for private registration or do you not care that your details are made public?

How much extra is it to register a domain privately?

I like to do it. Its only $2 or so at godaddy. I have to do it to all my domains at namecheap eventually.
Its ALOT better not having your personal details online for all to see.

$2 is good, i thought it would be something like $20 a year or something.
I see that 1and1 do it for free?

Hiding your personal details makes a domain private.
So people going on whois wont see your name and other details there if its private.

I always get private

I used to register normally, then i went back and spent a few hundred privatising each domain. Its just worth it for that security.

Well, some providers allow you to change the Whois information after you registered it. So if you are concerned about privacy, you can change the whois information to anything you want.

Thats illegal. You are legally bound to private accurate and true whois information, or risk legal action.
Bad advice buddy

Yes, whois info HAS to be true. If they find out you're lying, you can get in lots of trouble including a sizeable fine.

I get private as well. I don't really feel comfortable having all my information out there. Although I do understand why people would want to know the site owners information in certain situations.
